Policy and Procedure

Context

This project began when I was contacted by our accounting department. I was told "We've spent two years overhauling our policies and procedures from the ground up, and three months from now we have to travel all around the world to the company's different locations and put everyone through a two day training on all the changes that have been made. We know you have made fun slide decks in the past and were wondering if you could help us make the training fun? We were thinking of doing a game show theme."

It was a lot to take in.

I worked hand-in-hand with the accounting team for the next three months helping them identify learning objectives, building three different versions of the same training (different company locations used one of three different softwares, which altered the training needs accordingly), designing participant and facilitator guides, putting together elearning modules, and coaching them to become engaging trainers for their live sessions.

Tools Used

PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Articulate 360

I took advantage of the game show theme when it came time to review the material

My Role

I served as the Project Manager as well as the primary Instructional Designer. I was very grateful to be able to pull in a couple of other people from the Learning & Development team to assist in bringing everything together. My primary concern was that the two days of live training were both locked in stone, and also far too short a time to cover every change in policy that was being implemented. I encouraged the team that would be delivering the training to focus their face-to-face time on the changes that would either immediately benefit the learners or would create problems if they did not know. We titled these "Time Savers and Trouble Makers" and made them the heart of the live training.

In the end I was able to build 5 different game show themed templates which each included a playable game. This project was a big undertaking for everyone involved, but we all walked away happy with the end result. Feedback surveys reflected that the participants enjoyed the training and found value in the materials provided.
